New Ps3 model coming?

FCC documents show new Sony PS3 model on its way

With the slow but steady disappearance of the 60GB PlayStation 3 from store shelves, the effective entry-price for Sony’s newest console is once again $599 for the 80GB bundle. It’s unlikely that Sony will head into the holiday season at the same price point as it did last year, which is why industry analysts are predicting an upcoming price drop for the 80GB model.

Even at $499, the PlayStation 3 would still be priced well above its prime competitor – the Xbox 360 Premium at $349. Earlier this month, a report surfaced saying that Sony will introduce yet another PlayStation 3 iteration that could potentially occupy the $399 level.

The $399 model is speculated to come with a 40GB hard drive with no pack-in title. Sony would be expected to carry the 80GB model at $499 with MotorStorm or other title. Furthermore, Sony may sweeten the deal by bundling with either one or both SKUs with Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray Disc.

A recent FCC filing by Sony may have revealed several new details about an upcoming PlayStation 3 model. Although the majority of technical details and photographs have been blocked from the public’s view at Sony’s request, the information available is able to confirm that the upcoming model – designated CECHG01 – is indeed a PlayStation 3 at the core.

Technologies described in the filing include Bluetooth, 802.11b/g WiFi, along with a number of I/O ports. The FCC report states that only two USB ports were tested (current PS3s have four ports) and there were no mention of memory card reader tests. Since the FCC is a radio test, it may not have required extensive testing of select PS3 features.

Earlier this month, Sony enlisted the help of top computer manufacturer Foxconn to manufacture low-cost PlayStation 3. The FCC filing could well be the first sign of the new product development agreement between the two companies.

USB based memory card PS2/Two Modchip!

First ever pictures of a NEW device which will mod any PS2/Two via the use of a memory card ONLY! A short while ago, we broke the news that a new product was to be released for the PS2/PSTwo which essentially gives all the functionality of a mod chip but from a uniquely designed memory card. However, it would seem as if VAST will not be the only product with such capabilities! Today we have received an e-mail from a team which claims they have been working on their own PS2/PStwo mod chip memory card device for TWO YEARS, and with the announcement of VAST, the time had come to officially announce their offering. The new product is a 100% MagicGate compatible 32MB PS2 memory card which works on all un-modded PS2/Two systems in the same fashion a memory card does. Using the supplied software, it will be possible to upload and download files via a USB Connection which is built into the 32MB memory of the memory card product. We are yet to witness the hardware design of the VAST, but we must say the hardware design of its rival sure looks very advanced. Again, upon insertion of the pictured memory card, the PS2/Two will become fully unlocked allowing you to enhance your gaming experience with unlocked saved, additional operating systems, emulators, media and other related homebrew goodness. We were also told that full specifications and a website will be unveiled relatively soon.

PS3 Update v2.00 info (rumor)

Here is his list in it's entirety:

* 1. v2.00 will have updated drivers for its built-in internet browser, for updated flash player functionality and other stuff related to the browser.

* 2. his beta/final build of v2.00 consisted of 2 different downloads - one containing Home, and one without it. this results in the Home software having it's own section in the XMB. Current Beta version are downloaded from the store and are booted from the game section of the XMB. It was mentioned though, that Home has been accessed this way since v1.54 and not to expect Home to actually be released until after v2.10 or v2.20. Kinks are being worked out involving the Home/XMB menu design/access. His group is mainly ironing out

* 3. Anonymous mentioned that there would be no in-game XMB access yet, although the group that he is currently operating with have actually sent this idea, as well as other ideas, to their dept heads. Aside from known bug issues, he also gets to send his higher-ups thoughts/opinions/ideas to improve software. But he hasn't heard of any response from anyone yet about this feature other than that, so far, it is not in his final build.

* 4. Icons for movies/games can now move while other media types are currently being accessed.

* 5. Security is being worked on. You can password protect individual files on your HDD including movies, photos and pictures by pressing triangle to access the options menu. he did state though that this does not appear to be anywhere finished yet, and not to expect it for the v2.00 update, but cool info none the less.

Top 10 Reasons PSN will be Xbox LIVE’s Equal or Superior

1. Playstation HOME. Home offers a rich avatar graphical interface for player interaction, activities, and trophies. Oh and can’t forget the posh apartments.

2. Downloadable retro Playstation content (i.e. PS1 games).

3. FREE, FREE, FREE! The PSN is completely free unlike Xbox LIVE.

3. Introduced downloadable multitasking/background downloading.

4. Integrated web browser with the PSN store set up similarly for a layout that most internet gamers are familiar with. PSN thereby branches out from its own system to the world wide web (gosh, that’s so 1995).

5. Future integration of Video On Demand, Music on Demand, Singstar.

6. Easier and cheaper access to the network for Wi-fiers. All PS3s come standard with wireless capability, whereas it costs $99 for a 360 (yes I shelled out the cash for my xbox)

7. Folding@Home. Using the power of the PS3 and the PSN users can contribute to the understanding and possible cure of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and MS. Come on, PSN should win hands down for this humanitarian effort.

8. Frequent firmware updates. Some might gawk at frequency and like only the large chunky and infrequent updates from MSoft. But the slow yet steady addition of new bits and bobs is fun.

9. PSN has already accomplished much of what LIVE has done/has in 9 months. LIVE has existed for nearly 5 years (circa 2002).

10. Free. Oh wait I already said that… oh well, it’s a biggy.
