Load times; PSP phat VS. PSP Lite/Slim

You'll find the new "UMD Cache" option in the System Settings Menu. According to the scrolling description, enabling the UMD Cache will "reduce the frequency at which the system reads from the UMD." We enabled the UMD-caching feature and tested a few games to see if it had any affect on load times. UMD caching requires an initial memory load, so we also tested how fast the games could load up levels after we first started and exited a game to preload the data into system memory. We had time to test out only three games, but early results indicate that the additional system memory and UMD caching really do help speed up initial game launches, as well as subsequent level reloads.

Pandora's Battery - Software to un-brick/downgrade EVERY PSP!

One of the biggest if not THE BIGGEST development in the PSP hacking scene has just unfolded. A collective group of hackers including the likes of Dark_Alex, Noobz and Booster have released a new piece of software which will replicate the exact functions of Sony's Jigkick battery (even better) - that means it is now possible for homebrew enabled PSP's to UNBRICK and DOWNGRADE their systems at their own will. The respective software will transform any regular PSP battery into one which can perform all the functions of the official Sony JigKick which is used by Sony repair staff themselves. Even if your PSP is not homebrew enabled, you can just ask a friend who has a homebrew enabled PSP to run the software and transform your battery too! Read more on the software at the official release thread as launched by legendary hacker Dark_Alex HERE. Spread the word and DIGG THIS!. And on a FINAL note, while the team is a bit too proud to apply pressure for DONATIONS, just do it even if it is just a dollar - ig390@msn.com via PAYPAL (Authorized by Dark_Alex, Noobz and all on the C+D development team).

USB based memory card PS2/Two Modchip!

First ever pictures of a NEW device which will mod any PS2/Two via the use of a memory card ONLY! A short while ago, we broke the news that a new product was to be released for the PS2/PSTwo which essentially gives all the functionality of a mod chip but from a uniquely designed memory card. However, it would seem as if VAST will not be the only product with such capabilities! Today we have received an e-mail from a team which claims they have been working on their own PS2/PStwo mod chip memory card device for TWO YEARS, and with the announcement of VAST, the time had come to officially announce their offering. The new product is a 100% MagicGate compatible 32MB PS2 memory card which works on all un-modded PS2/Two systems in the same fashion a memory card does. Using the supplied software, it will be possible to upload and download files via a USB Connection which is built into the 32MB memory of the memory card product. We are yet to witness the hardware design of the VAST, but we must say the hardware design of its rival sure looks very advanced. Again, upon insertion of the pictured memory card, the PS2/Two will become fully unlocked allowing you to enhance your gaming experience with unlocked saved, additional operating systems, emulators, media and other related homebrew goodness. We were also told that full specifications and a website will be unveiled relatively soon.

Optical mouse add-on for Nintendo DS

Back in the late 70s, Atari came up with the trakball controller for a little game called Football which represented the players with Xs and Os. As the video game market exploded in the 80s, the trakball was used on games such as Missile Command, Centipede, and Millipede. The trakball was essentially a big marble mounted in a receptacle with rollers underneath which mapped its X and Y position. For example, to move the cursor in Missile Command, players rolled the trakball with their palm(s) to target incoming missiles.

The Slide Adventure: Mag Kid game includes a special controller that's similar to the trakball but in reverse. Instead of rolling it with your palm, you roll the controller on a flat surface to move a creature known Mag Kid. The Slide Controller plugs into the GBA cartridge port of the NDS or NDS-Lite and once affixed, players roll the NDS and Slide Controller together. Mag Kid is a little spherical beast who's special ability is magnetism which attracts metallic objects onto its body so that they're linked and pulled when moving.

As the story goes, Mag Kid's job is to reassemble a wrecked primitive-looking robot that's been busted apart. Wander around a contemporary home to find all of the robot's parts and assemble them back together again. Enemies scattered inside the house will attempt to derail Mag Kid's salvage operations but the little hero has a dashing attack and the ability to take on the nature of its defeated enemies to wield new attack abilities.

A total of 12 mini-games may be played in addition to the Mag Kid action and a wireless function allows up to four players to enjoy a fierce magnetism-powered contest. Please note that multi-player games require that all gamers have their own copies of Slide Adventure. There is no game sharing function with only one copy of the game.

This game is also known as Suraidoadobencha Magukiddo.

PS3 Update v2.00 info (rumor)

Here is his list in it's entirety:

* 1. v2.00 will have updated drivers for its built-in internet browser, for updated flash player functionality and other stuff related to the browser.

* 2. his beta/final build of v2.00 consisted of 2 different downloads - one containing Home, and one without it. this results in the Home software having it's own section in the XMB. Current Beta version are downloaded from the store and are booted from the game section of the XMB. It was mentioned though, that Home has been accessed this way since v1.54 and not to expect Home to actually be released until after v2.10 or v2.20. Kinks are being worked out involving the Home/XMB menu design/access. His group is mainly ironing out

* 3. Anonymous mentioned that there would be no in-game XMB access yet, although the group that he is currently operating with have actually sent this idea, as well as other ideas, to their dept heads. Aside from known bug issues, he also gets to send his higher-ups thoughts/opinions/ideas to improve software. But he hasn't heard of any response from anyone yet about this feature other than that, so far, it is not in his final build.

* 4. Icons for movies/games can now move while other media types are currently being accessed.

* 5. Security is being worked on. You can password protect individual files on your HDD including movies, photos and pictures by pressing triangle to access the options menu. he did state though that this does not appear to be anywhere finished yet, and not to expect it for the v2.00 update, but cool info none the less.

DS Okiwi Alpha 0.2!

The new alpha is hereAt last. It allows to read files from the card (by entering addresses like file:///path, like, for example, file:///test.html) or Internet (http://...).

Some pages are displayed fairly well (specially blogs, like this, which is preconfigured as the home page), while others don't work at all, so I'll have to investigate little by little what Okiwi fails to know.

By now it's able to interpret numerous CSS 2.1 properties, like margins, paddings, floating, colors, etc., altough there are several missing. Some other things not done yet are: tables, forms, cookies and images.

There are also some other bugs and lacks I'm aware of.To scroll a page, dragging with the stylus is still the only way. 75% and 150% zoom levels, which were missing in the first version, have been added.

To follow a link, it's enough to "click" on it, altough it doesn't work always, and I must debug it.The good news is that, from now on, new versions will be released with a much higher frequency. I'll release one each time I implement one of the lacking features or fix important bugs. The installation procedure of this release is the same as the last, so I encourage the reading of the instructions I published that time. If someone has still the old version in his card, it's recommended to erase it completely before installing this one.
